Boot Camp With the ever rising prison population in this country, something has to be done rehabilitate criminals rather than just lock them up. Many feel that the â€Å"new† prisons, boot camps are the answer (Champion 1990). I will give a brief overview of boot camp institutions, specifically, about the operation and structure of these, the cost involved with both juvenile and adult facilities, and how effective they really are with regard to recidivism. Boot camps or shock incarceration programs, as they are also called, vary greatly around the country. At the start of 1997, 54 adult boot camp facilities operated in 34 states and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, with a total of 7,250 inmates. The program accepts non-violent offenders under age 35 who are sentenced to prison and eligible for parole within three years. Participants, in lieu of incarceration, spend six months in a boot camp and six months under intensive community supervision. When looking at the paintings that were created throughout the Renaissance art period, there are multiple paintings that depict religious stories. The best of these paintings has Jesus depicted within them. The majority of these paintings were created by those who had a large impact on the art â€Å"world† today. One of the most famous paintings that reveals religion within it is The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, which is similarly to The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese. When analyzing these two pieces of artwork, they are often confused for the other due to the fact that they are both based on biblical stories as well as how they are organized. As the tropical rainforest of Rhondonia, Brazil is leveled for farmland, rainfall is significantly and directly reduced. Rainfall is reduced because there are fewer trees to return water vapor to the air through tree transpiration, or water evaporation through trees. Relative humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air compared with the amount of vapor needed to make the air saturated at the airs current temperature. The point past saturation is precipitation, or rainfall. If deforestation is the cause of decreased rainfall, then decreased average relative humidity will be evident. In order, to isolate deforestation as the primary factor causing decreased rainfall, tests will be conducted to measure relative humidity. Average relative humidity measurements for the first month of the study will be compared to the average from the last month. Comparison 1 Taking the average of all measurements and comparing it to the average relative humidity from the prior year it was found that the average relative humidity had dropped one percent. Comparison 2 Taking the average of each stations relative humidity, it was found that all stations within 10 miles from deforestation had an average of two percent lower that stations at least 50 miles from deforestation. Comparison 3 Taking the average relative humidity for the last month from all stations and comparing it to the first months average it was found that the average had dropped .5 percent over the year. The findings suggest that deforestation is affecting the amount of rainfall in Brazil. The deforestation will not only continue to affect rainfall but will lead to increased global warming as evaporative cooling decreases.
